Jackie McDowell is a hobby artist born in 1979 in Coles County, Illinois. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.A. in world languages in 2001; in 2006, she received her M.A. from Portland State University. She has lived and worked in Paris, Cologne, Portland, Minneapolis, and Pittsburgh.
Jackie has been creating since childhood thanks to art classes being offered in her school district. As an adult, she completed university coursework in studio art and art history. Her visual art has been displayed in group shows at Unsmoke Systems Artspace in Braddock, PA; WildCard in Pittsburgh, PA; and Tarble Arts Center in Charleston, IL. Her sounds have been featured in The New York Times and Pitchfork.
She has worked in a variety of media including textiles, ceramics, screen printing, sound and, most recently, India ink and watercolor. Her inspiration is rooted in visual patterns, botanical shapes, world folklore, and ecstatic sounds.
Jackie currently resides in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood with her partner, Matt, and their adopted cat.
